To Guernsey
We got ready to depart to Guernsey’s St Peter’s Port when the tide slackened. (Really love those granny bars. Turns out they have so many uses.)
It was our best sail yet. The wind was out of NE at 14+ knots and we were flying. Gerty held steady at just under 9 knots with little heel and rudders basically dead center. A very smooth ride, no engine, batteries fully charged by the sun – magical.
The Swinge channel current never did carry us, but the tide stayed fairly slack at less than 1 knot for the duration of the trip.
In Guernsey the harbor is crowded and they have the boats docked up alongside each other, double and triple parked. This was a sight to see. It seems like a very friendly and robust boating community.
I got a kick out of the ambulance boat moored nearby- imagine being a nurse there!
The customs officer and harbor master came over right away and the proceedings were smooth. The price is of note at 40 pounds per night, we would not stay long. We went straight into town upon arrival for some English pub grub- fish and chips of course!
