Sun Beats Fog

Maine in June was wet this year. It rained for thirty days and thirty nights (No kidding.) When John & Stacey showed up at the dinghy dock on July 5th, the sun came out, and for the next five days, it wrestled with the fog and won!

Our ethereal Frenchboro hike ended with the sun warming our backs and cookies warming our bellies.

On our way to the Cranberries, the sun lit up the lobster pots, easing navigation for the enthusiastic lookout crew (John), and when we arrived at Little Cranberry, it made our unexpected jumbo golf cart ride all the more fabulous.

Then, back in Acadia proper, we ate melted PB&J bagels, courtesy of the sun, at the top of Mt. Sergeant under a cloudless blue sky.

Undoubtedly, the bursts of good weather were welcome, but the fog made things funny because we reserved gray time for lobsters and laughs.

Stacey might never have danced in the cockpit with apple pie dough on her fingers if it hadn’t been misting outside, and John might never have gotten acquainted with his lunch.

We wouldn’t have had our socked-in mornings or spent the afternoons contemplating which story was better—the golden one John & Stacey were telling us or the new one we were making together.
