Sister Sail
My sister is one of those people that wakes up happy. So it makes sense that a weather forecast of scattered T-storms Friday, and heavy rain Friday night into Saturday did not deter her.
Bonnie (dressed ‘saily’ in all the bright colors and patterns that Floridians wear) and Daniel (what can I say – it’s the hair), Michael and I were ready for a weekend adventure on Friday evening and we were all very pleasantly surprised with a clear gorgeous sunset sail to Oyster Bay Harbor.
Smooth shot across the sound with 8-10 knots on beam- Happy sail up. Then tacking into harbor because it was so nice out, we didn’t want to stop sailing! Bonnie egging us on the whole way saying, “This is great! This is so great!” Shish-ka-bob on the grill Dinner around 9:30 pm.
Saturday morning- still no rain. Michael, Daniel and I donned goggles, flashlight, scrub brush, with the mission impossible plan to scrub barnacles off transducer because boat speed wasn’t registering. Water viability of about 6 inches made for difficult mission. Bonnie and I sang the mission impossible song to get everybody in the mood.
Dinghy ride to Bayville. Nice walk, but finally caught in forecasted big rain. Oatmeal, tea, and time to let the very adventurous guests dry out and warm up back on Gerty. No wind, had to motor back to Mamaroneck, but low and behold the boat speed transducer was working again! Success.
Things broke: OMG! Nothing broke!!! Oh wait. That’s a lie. The transducer wasn’t working, but we fixed it!
