Nice Breeze and Strong Currents
The sun goes down around 9:30pm! I love the long days. It feels like summer. But when sailing, it’s COLD! Today I added layers until I had four on top, plus a hat. When Joshua and I felt sea sick, we had to snuggle together to keep warm.
To summarize the day, we went out in the morning for our daily delicious patisserie delight and a stop at the farmer’s market for fresh fruits and vegetables. When we arrived back at the boat, it was time to fill up the tanks, both water and diesel.
There was a large family from Sri Lanka at the diesel dock that asked if they could sail with us back to the United States.
Our one hour sail turned into ten hours because as we approached our planned destination harbor the wind was strong against a lee shore and this was too risky for mooring and trying our dingy for the first time.
So we kept going and wound up at an incredible Normandy beach that is only present when the tide goes out. The tide was really far out and there were kids everywhere playing in the tide pools, sand and ocean. Dogs too! We had a quick lunch on the boat and dinghied over to the beach.
Joshua and I fell asleep on the way back and when I woke up, Michael and Pete looked so happy beating up wind in the 22 knots apparent wind speed (about 16 knots true wind speed).
All was as well as could be until I went into the cabin to use the head and came back up feeling very woozy. Should have just held it cause it took a while staring at the horizon and a dose of Dramamine to set my stomach right.
We docked alongside two Garcia 45’s, one named “Enjoy Life” and the other “Dada Tux”. We ate burgers for dinner around 10 pm.
