50 years of friendship + 2 husbands + 4 kids = 7 Armadillos

There comes a day in everyone’s life when you don’t need a reasonable explanation for things. Why do we love each other unconditionally? We just do. Why do some stories never get old? They just don’t. Why are armadillos fascinating? They just are, and Cumberland Island, Georgia, is better because of them.

Our time with Leslie and Jeremy wasn’t about the distance we traveled to see each other. It wasn’t about the good fortune we had to be able to share great southern food, nor the unseasonably spectacular weather we had. It wasn’t even about that glorious Spanish moss hanging from every tree. It was about the armadillos—the anticipation, the delight, and the confidence we had in a lasting memory being made. We are indebted to these adorable, prehistoric creatures. Like a lifelong friend, they have made an indelible mark on our hearts.

Last remarks

Thank you, Leslie & Jeremy, for the never-ending adventure. None of it—Gerty, Love Me Tender, the nature walks, the dolphins, the two-hour search for morning coffee would’ve been the same without you.

The running tally of Georgia boat projects

  • Completing and installing the new starboard engine hatch cover.
  • Reconfiguring the helm station, including removing old and installing new foot buttons for the electric winch, new horn, and new windlass control.

  1. thanks and greetings from Italian spring time. You do it right, very nice text and photos. In autumn is America`s Cup in Barcelona, and the pirates of Apulia will form a little fleet and visit from September till October.

  2. Well, that blog post was definitely worth the wait! It took me all day to read it because I had to stop on the first 3 attempts because I couldn’t read through the tears. Our visit was without a doubt the highlight of our year. Seeing you and Michael in your new home on the sea just made us so happy. It is clearly where you belong. You are such sailors and more than that, a natural team. And no matter how much time passes between visits, it always feels like no time at all. 52 years of friendship which to me is like family. I know we will be friends/family for the rest of our lives. All we have to figure out is where we can meet you next and which animals we can spot on our next adventure, We love you guys and wish you safe travels! Anchors away.

    1. Yay! Sorry it took so long. It was my tech guy who caused the delay, hahaha! I miss you & Jer everyday. So it’s a good thing you’re the easiest person in the world to keep in touch with! XO
