Know Your Crap

Overfilling the head holding tank is messy. A mistake that one only has to learn once!

To help assure our tank is not overfilled I recently installed a tank monitor. A bright red light now comes on when the tank is almost full.

I picked the New Providence Marine Profile Series display and their complementary Non-Contact Level Sensor. The value seemed good and the online reviews were positive. The fact that the monitor can be installed without going into the “stink” tank was also a huge selling point.

The installation proved straight forward. The hardest part was running a new power cable to the monitor, which required some boat repair yoga.

We have been using the monitor for several weeks and so far the review is positive. Nothing fancy, it just works. Sure the LED lights are a bit brighter than needed, but this is a picky criticism.

There is one piece of advice I can give anyone who wishes to install this monitor. Do not calibrate the monitor with a tank full of fresh water. Pee and crap are more conductive than fresh water. The difference makes a difference.

  1. I would like to add that this is SO much more civilized than having to monitor the contents of the tank by using a flashlight to illuminate the poop level. Thankyou DH!!!
