General Information
Gerty (2017-2023) was an Allures 45.9 assembled in Cherbourg France in 2017 by Allures Yachting. She was hull number 3 of the 45.9 model.
She was designed by Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design with interiors by Franck Darnet. She was designed to safely cross oceans in comfort. Along the coast she can explore shallow areas with her minimum draft of 3.76 feet (1.15m). This is possible because her ballast was integral to her hull and she had a lifting centerboard. With centerboard lowered, her draft was 9.5 feet (2.9m) allowing her to pinch up wind.
Her aluminum hull was 45 feet (13.7m) long. She had an integral aluminum bowsprit and a stern arch that increase her overall length. Her beam was carried well aft tapering to 13.2 feet (4m) at her stern.
While Gerty’s hull structure was welded aluminum for durability, strength, and safety, her deck was composite fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) for ease of maintenance and comfort. The aluminum hull, welded at the Garcia yachting yard in Condé-sur-Noireau, was crafted with exceptional artistry and was incredibly solid with plating in excess of 3/8″ (10mm) thick and fully welded through hulls. With the chainplates welded to and integral to the hull there was little risk of chainplate failures, including related leaks common on FRP hulled boats.
Gerty was a 2 cabin version of the 45.9. She was an extremely comfortable boat fitted out with a focus on ease of maintenance, autonomy, and safety. She had a simplified electrical system with no shore power connection and no electrical generator. Instead, a large 12V house battery array was primarily charged by a 600W solar array. A large inverter provided 120V power when needed. She also had a simplified plumbing system with a single head and no piped raw water system since a water maker provided adequate fresh water.
