Friends Aboard

We don’t know many sailors. Our hometown isn’t landlocked, but in the Hudson River Towns you’re more likely to meet kayakers, soccer parents, bikers, skiers and pilates lovers. So I was pleasantly surprised when my long time friend Lori called to say she had been watching the weather and the rain was clearing- it was time for a sail and I was thrilled! Zachary was only too happy to rush his pre-departure clothes shopping trip for Jordon to an end, so we dashed out of Old Navy and texted Michael en route to Gerty.

I know cruisers are living the dream, but there is something to be said for the post work week Friday afternoon sail into the sunset. Whether your boat is big or small, new or salted, motor or sail- the sense of shared escapism is palpable. Would you like beer or wine with that?

I can’t remember what we ate or which way the wind was blowing, but the breeze was soft- a ‘Lori breeze’ we called it. Doug and Michael were captivated by a tangle of sheets which would quickly become the rigging for the Happy Sail. And the sky matched the crimson color at the clew. Love to have friends aboard!
