Fish Stories to Come

There is lots of low level cursing coming from the port aft cabin, or ‘workroom’ as we call it. Grunting whispers of, “sonuvabitch, O’comm’n and aaww shit.” Yup, the pleasantries of another boat project is what I am hearing. This time it’s setting up a storage contraption for our new fishing rod.

What’s that you say? We don’t know how to fish? Well ya see, it was really hot and humid yesterday, there was no wind, and we had no gas (literally tank was reading 0%).

It just so happens that when we pulled into the gas dock, we were a ten minute Uber ride from Bass Pro Shop of Bridgeport, Ct. These are fun types of stores – ridiculously big retail playgrounds, wilderness scenes, indoor waterfalls, food and such. We have stopped at similar stores to entertain the kids when they were little on the drive home from Maine vacations. In years past, I don’t recall ever buying anything, but yesterday I felt like we were the real deal. We had a mission! When the mission was completed we owned one Penn Squall trolling rod fully strung with mono-filament, a fillet knife kit, a net, a rod holder and a lure that looks like a black and red rubber hose. Even though the salesman said you should troll in Long Island sound at 2 knots to catch sea bass, we couldn’t resist trying it out on our way to Orient Point at SOG 9 knots with the happy sail up in 18 knots of S wind. Of course, we didn’t catch a thing, but the sail was great!

Orient Point is a good place to be a sailor. Long white beach to my left, low key sailboat regatta to my right, dinghy dock behind me that leads to beautiful under-trafficked country roads for jogging. The humidity is lifting and I find that the writing comes easy today.

Been waiting all summer for this rainbow. It was not easy coming. Had to hightail it back to Gerty on paddle boards when we saw the storm clouds coming. This one was complete with thunder, lightening and torrential downpour. We were look’n at the incredible sunset to the west.

It wasn’t until I convinced Michael to attempt another selfie of us that we turned South and noticed the ethereal sunset rainbow overlaying a pink sky.

  1. Beautiful pictures ….. and happy fishing although I can’t imagine a fish going for a lure that looks like a black and red hose.
