Tears for Tears
Wing foiling is fun. That’s right—capturing the wind with a hand-held sail while balancing on a gyroscoping board that teeters atop the water on a carbon-fiber mast and foil IS fun.
Tearing my MCL while doing it? Less fun.

I decided to hold off on blogging about the injury right away, but six and a half weeks later, I’m feeling better and happy to tell the tale. The story itself is simple: an awkward fall, a twisted knee, and a sudden change of plans.
Michael, in the meantime, has become a wingfoiler extraordinaire, jibing, tacking, and slicing through the anchorage in any weather.

So, how did we get from there to here?

Well, we sailed, of course! First, we made the passage from Vulaga to Suva to get an MRI. Once my orthopedic surgeon cousin, Wayne, gave us the all-clear (no surgery needed!), we sailed from Suva to Musket Cove. It wasn’t quite that simple, but regardless of the details, we’ve ended up anchored in this quintessential Fijian tourist hub for weeks.

We feel incredibly lucky to be here. Lucky because there’s an island of flat walking trails weaving through resorts, a golf course, and a quiet neighborhood—perfect for my rehab. Lucky because the wind kicks up for foiling and kiting with friends every afternoon by 2:00 PM on the dot (perfect for Michael). And lucky because, sometimes, a little perspective is all you need.

Looking GREAT! So glad that you are recovering and are back on both feet! xxxx
That’s a better story than tripping over something in the boat. Glad you are on the mend!
Oops I forgot to ask you last night how your knee was doing but your photos say it all. Happy to hear that you have a new perspective and are back on two feet. Yay and Whew!
