She’s Fast!

Ships log September 27: Depart Liberty Island for Annapolis.

A tight weather window has arrived, and the wind is blowing 15-20K from the Northeast. Although the predicted Atlantic sea state is rough, with 6 to 8-foot waves, sailboats are for sailing, so that’s what we’re gonna do. Goodbye, New York!

Sleep? The Captain never said anything about sleep. Averaging over 9 knots SOG, we’re moving so fast that there’s no reason to sail overnight. In fact, it’s preferable for us to wait for the current to change. So, why not sleep? Maybe Outremer Gerty is worth the toil.

Ships log September 28, 20:00: Arrive Reed Island, Delaware Bay

Sleep, again? I could get used to this. We had two reefs in the main all day, and our log book says it all— 08:32 AWS 16K, SOG 11.3K. We’re fast, so fast! The Captain is smiling. He’s happy. The seemingly endless boat work, I think it’s worth it.

Ships log September 29: Arrive Annapolis in time for dinner. So cush. I could get used to this 🙂
