New York, New York
As I write this, we have taken Gerty off autopilot so Elaine can experience the helm and there is lots of shouting, laughing and chaos!
This is our third time in New York City Harbor and I imagine it will be just as exciting if we were to sail into it 100,000 more times. This type of awe is good for the soul. And the stress keeps us on our toes!
Our TWS is 18 knots W SW. We’re on a beam reach, with 1.2 knots of current flooding us into the harbor. Our SOG is up to 10 knots and there are boats of all kinds everywhere! For the moment a classic, New York State of Mind by Billy Joel appealed to everyone.
We are anchored behind Lady Liberty and just shuttled our guests to shore before dark so they could catch an Uber.
The nighttime view of Manhattan from our anchorage, west of the Statue of Liberty is so spectacular that every ten minutes Michael is calling me out of the cabin, “You’re not going to believe this, there is even more lights than there was before! Come look!” It is THAT sparkly!
